On Saturday, June 13th, the Southern Prairie Railway hosted its first of four Redneck Suppers at the Community Centre in Pangman.
About 60 folk from the Seniors’ group at Langham and area arrived at the dock in Pangman around 6:00 pm. They walked across the way to the Community Centre where the Economic Development Board hosted a wonderful meal of red neck taters, roast squirrel (beef), roadkill honey BBQ (chicken), copperhead fixins’ (carrots), lawn clippen greens (kale salad), and dirt pie (Lazy Black Forest cake) for dessert.
The tables were decorated with newsprint and potato/radish centrepieces with cocktail sausages, gherkins and swampwater for appetizers.
Dave Sheldon from Assiniboia and Ed Rigetti from Glentworth played country music for accompaniment and a couple ladies from the group gave impromptu vocals.
It was a lovely evening weather wise and enjoyment wise!
Thank you to Byron and Linda for submitting this article.

Debra provided the board with the Website stats for last year. We had 8,436 visitors to the website, with 6,131 of these being new visitors to the site. We have had visitors from Canada, United States, Germany, United Kingdom and other countries. Debra has agreed to continue to maintain the website for the board. She asks that if anyone has a community event they are planning, to let her know and she will post it on the community calendar. Also, if you have photos or a story about a community event that has been held in town, please send it to her and she will post the story on the website.
Southern Prairie Railway will be stopping in Pangman during the Farmers Market on Saturday morning, starting on June 27th.
We are always looking for new members, so if you are interested feel free to come to one of our meeting. You can call Eileen at 306-442-2145 for more information about the Board.
The EDB would like to remind everyone that the Pangman Market is held every Saturday morning from 9 to 1. The Tour Train visits Pangman about 10:45 am or so. If you have any items you wish to sell at the Market please note that the tables are free. It would be great if we could have more vendors to sell at the market. If you require more information about this please contact Eileen at 306-442-2145.
As well, they would like everyone to know that The Train Platform is for use by the community. It can be used for pictures or the train visit. Please note that Southern Prairie Rail has requested that any child who rides the train for the “loop-ride” must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. This is mainly because of liability.
Unfortunately, due to bikes and skateboards being used on the platform, a gate has been set up to prevent this. If you wish to use the platform and the gate is up, please contact Eileen or a member of the EDB to arrange to have the gate removed.
Thank you to everyone for their continued support of the Pangman Market.
We would like to congratulate Dan Cordick, who was the 1st prize winner at the Ogema Fair for his apricot jam. Dan is one of our Farmers Market vendors. Stop by at his table Saturday mornings when you are at the market to see his variety of homemade jams.
The Pangman & District Economic Development Board has recently purchased a BBQ for the Farmers Market burger lunches. This was made possible by the Community Centre Coffee Crew. Community Coffee is served Monday & Tuesday mornings at the Community Centre.
Thank you to all the volunteers who came out to help clean up the Pangman Cemetery.

We hope to have a kick-off with a meet & greet time with the groups from town, a community yard/garage sale and a BBQ lunch and if possible a visit from Saskatchewan Tourism. We look forward to a good up-coming summer with the Farmers Market and the Tour train visits on Saturday mornings.

Pangman Market continues to be a great Saturday morning event for all who come. We have many vendors with their items for sale for the local folks and the ones who come off the SPR Tour Train. Each week the visitors from the train are people who are holidaying or local folks taking the ride. By the end of the season there will have been about 500 people who have come to Main Street in Pangman and helped make it a good time. The Burger Bar each week is a big hit and a good social time as folks sit and visit. We have had great weather each week and it is nice to see the town come alive with cars on both sides of the street and lots of activity.
The final Pangman Market will be held on October 5th. We will have the “Party at the Platform” once again with a Burger lunch sponsored by EDB and the “Spinning Wheels” music duet will be on the Platform to entertain us. We will have the Vendor tables over there as well so everyone can be together.
So plan to join us for the final Pangmna Market day for 2013.
